Read “I, Avatar: the Culture and Consequences of Having a Second Life“, Meadows, 2007, 144p. Author recounts in-world experience as designer and builder. Compares pop culture to multiplayer worlds and how the avatar became the central component of reality. There are three dozen brief articles each on a different aspect of SL, e.g. rituals and archetypes. A few of the success stories are detailed along with several risks. Much larger-scale immersion of users is possible and expected.
